Living for the Fame
10/04/18 – 10/27/18
Angell Gallery, Toronto
In an age of hook-up apps and endless social media timelines, Chris Ironside’s new solo-exhibit Living for the Fame re-examines the anonymous bodies we scroll past and swipe through on a regular basis. By filtering and warping these images of public encounters on digital platforms, Ironside produces a gaze lingering on the subject’s uncanny desire to be seen. Born from the lyrics of Courtney Love’s Doll Parts: “I fake it so real, I am beyond fake,” Ironside fixates on the artifice of the picture-perfect persona’s journey for love and admiration.
